What's In A Name

Choosing a domain name is an important step not only to starting your business but to growing it. Your name will be how people think of you and what they associate with you.
It is important that your name convey something about you and what you offer. Catchy is good but to the point is great also. One way to go about choosing your name is to see if it is available on the web. Having a name that doesnʼt match your website is a major mistake. If the name you want is not available on the web then you may want to consider changing and fast.
For instance if you want to choose the name Acme Cupcakes and the web domain is already in use you are forcing your customers to remember a second identity for you. The other thing to remember is that if your customer canʼt remember your web address they will find another website.
If you are set on a domain name that is taken you may be able to purchase the name from the owner. Just because a name is taken doesnʼt mean it is in use. Godaddy will be happy to direct you to the owner and see if they will sell the name.
If our preferred name is not available in .com it may be available in any one of the other available extensions such as .net, .us, .biz, and so on.
If you are just starting your business finding a name is a great exercise and will probably not be too much of a challenge. If you are already established and are just creating a website you may need to be a bit more creative in order to find a compatible domain name. When all else false remember Keep it simple!
